can't look you in the eye

Oh man, I haven't posted in a week! I haven't been quite sure how to follow up on the Sassy post - mainly because, well, a new one is possibly in the works! - so until I can address that more comfortably I bring you an epiphany I was very pleased to have while singing showtunes to Kristin over Skype (Dreamgirls and The Sound of Music, if you must know, and BEAUTIFULLY, may I add, contrary to what the person on the other end might tell you):

There was an obvious kinderwhore Courtney vibe from Proenza Schouler's Fall collection but it wasn't until I was looking at Marc Jacobs for the millionth time (and, can I say, it is inspiring and fresh and exciting every time) (Ugh, I hate when you love something so much your stomach hurts! Unless it's the incessant amounts of Fruit Roll Ups. Or awful singing!) (Run-on sentences, ugh) (TOO MANY PARENTHESIS)

Breathes.

It was not until I came across this look again that I realized how similar it was to prom queen Courtney's dress in the Miss World video. And the Proenza dress is similar to kinderwhore Courtney's dress in the Miss World video. So I decided to post it. Because I haven't posted in a while. And I was excited about these references.

To conclude, I need more sugar.

Isn't it strange that an outsider like Courtney has found herself in the 'in' crowd in fashion? To go back to your 'Sassy' entry, Ms. Love herself has become that commodity who once was on the fringe.

P.S I found a huge stash of sassy the other day when I was poking around the house the other day...Funny but they were my 26 year old brothers? He is a graphic designer and liberal sooo he said that sassy is a great example of everything a mag should have.

You have to wonder: would the ringing of a doorbell really be a favourite thing of anyone in Nazi occupied Europe?

Other than that .... great movie choices. Courtney Love ... not so much.

I have just recently discovered my passion for Proenza Schouler's dresses and overall aesthetic (Mostly, thanks to your blog, Miss Tavi; since here was the very first place where I saw a part of their work).

Either way, I guess I'm just trying to state how much I like your blog. So, keep up the good work! Until your next post!

I think i must be the only person who is bored of Courtney photoshoots. It's the same old 'Tit's & Ciggies' look everytime! Am I the only one who thinks this??

When I saw the LV dress I KNEW it reminded me of someone - thanks for putting your finger on it!
I've had a little google though and I think the LV dress is MUCH much more like the dress Courtney wore to the Vanity Fair Oscsars party in 1995: http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/51362823.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=E41C9FE5C4AA0A14BB922938C2E3EB77EC396307D82F875A17662751221E74D4B01E70F2B3269972

THAT was the dress that was somewhere in my mind when I first saw the LV dress but couldn't remember... apart from it being silk instead of velvety, or whatever marc used, they have pretty much identical cuts!!

AND - just for you Tavi - the dress is THRIFTED! Because apparently no majot labels would lend CL a dress that night coz they didn't think they'd get it back/want her in it...!! LOVE

Even the antithesis to cool is cool.

ideasinforum said...

Actually I take that back. Because fashion is 'cool', but high fashion is the misunderstood, twisted sister to folks like Abercrombie and Banana Republic. It's dark and it's art you adorn yourself with, and name a real artist that wasn't tortured inside and driven by something dark and indescribable. We create because creation is beautiful, not to be successful and make money. We are inspired by others whose creative drive secretly speaks to ours. So the seemingly dichotomous similarity makes sense after all.

Tavi,

I'm worried about you and your addiction with sugar. Mayhaps we should talk about it sometime...preferably with a psychiatrist and a policeman in the same room? (Just to be safe!)(HA! I like parantheses, too!!)

the sound of music is quite fun indeed. I sing it often, in a similarly bad voice. that and telephone. but i'm pretty sure everyone sings that badly, with the exception of lady gaga, of course.
