Chalk

My sister came home from school and traveling for the first time in 11 months this summer and had the idea for us to make this short film. It's mostly her thing, so I won't take too much credit, other than drinking Nesquik and smiling and picking out the socks. It's not fashion-related (the outfits are really supposed to be more those of someone who likes fun clothes, not fashion) but I thought I'd post it anyway because we're really proud of it. I mean, just see what critics have to say:
"I think it's very good!" -Our mom
"You dyed your hair without our permission?!" -Our dad
We were aiming to enter it in a Vimeo contest, not because we really thought we'd win but because we needed a deadline and it would've been cool for it to be judged by the folks there. There was a last-minute technical mishap and we missed the entry deadline, but then we decided it's more fun this way and that artists shouldn't compete with each other. (Uh, I retract that statement now. We were making ourselves feel better. Sometimes contests can be good things.)
For a while now I've been in a kind of rut where I second-guess my outfits and are more conscious about the people around me whenever I go anywhere, so it was great to just do something like this and remember that it can be fun to embrace stares. And fun to wear Comme des Garcons toe shoes. And have red hair. Oh, I didn't tell you guys about my red hair! Sheba did it a couple weeks ago. This is it at its best, methinks. Enjoy!

The red is incredible! You look beautiful.

Also, the spoons tree reminds me of that Tony Orlando & Dawn song, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon." So cheesy,I know, but I still love it.

Hey, just stumbled over your blog, love the video,
and, yes, love wearing outfits just cause they're fun every now and then, causing stares is a good thing, my opinion.
very nice hair by the way..

Loved the video!!! I'm making a documentary myself, and was wondering what the soundtrack was during the credits. I doubt you will EVER read this, but I thought I'd try my luck anyway.

Thanks

Madi

Woah. Your red hair looks fantastic.
That adjective seems very kindergarden-teacher-sticker-ish, but oh well.
I really liked the beginning of your video especially, but the whole thing was really... cute. AGAIN WITH THE LAME ADJECTIVES. Anyway, I think you're cool. And I love reading your blog.

every time I see your blog i'm wondering what are you going to do in the future. Grown up Tavi? It seems impossible. I can imagine future interviews with "old" Tavie about her style right now. Will see.

What a great film you and your sister made! I love it. I also really like your "fun" clothes. You are right to distinguish between fun and fashion. I'd love your fun clothes hand-me-downs for my girls when they are older (oldest is 10 now). Your fashion is unique and very "you". It fits you well and your creativity is endless. I'm sure you will use it for a great putpose and I enjoy reading about each new application of it.

You remind me of a young Michelle Williams. An actress in the making perhaps?

The part about girls losing their confidence reminded me of John Berger's Ways of Seeing when he says "Men look at women, women watch themselves being looked at". It's well worth reading or watching the series on Youtube.

Much love!!!

This is genius! I love the video, and love your new hair! It reminded me of Amelie in the part where you picked it up in a ponytail. =)

The scene where you are wearing the balloons on your arms...three on one four on the other...reminded me of the King Missile song 'Hamsters' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjZjvEnRgTM for some reason.
In fact, the similarities are eerie.
Balloons...fashion.....well that's it really.

I still remember how happy I felt watching this video. And a irrestible craving to go out and hang spoons in trees and little plastic animals on cars. Go on making the world more colourful for us all!
