if you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make that *key change* CHAAAAANGE

My dad and I are back from London and I completely miss it. Actually, we got back Tuesday, but I was half dead, and last night my friend and I saw Bob Dylan in concert (!!!!! He smiled! He laughed! He was doing fancy footwork and was totally into it! Happy it was my first concert I've ever been to.) But anyway, London. Where to begin! Can't do too much recapping since it was for something speciallllll but FIRST THINGS FIRST:
RIP, King of Pop. And Oxyclean Guy, and Farrah. Seriously, a bunch of fashion bloggers leave the US and all this shiz goes down? The day I returned to camp:
Friend: How was London?
Me: Really fun!
Friend: Do people actually talk like that over there?
Me: Yeah, I couldn't believe it. They don't get news there either. I didn't find out Michael Jackson died until I got back home.
Friend: Whoa.
Me: Yeah. Europe is basically a hole.

EDIT: Geez louise, I was joking! Of course we knew/London isn't a hole. Man.

Anyway, this was kind of the trip's anthem. ON THE PHONE, YOU AND ME, TIL DAWN, TIL THREE. Such passion! Lots of hotel room mental dance partying for that one? Mental for me at least, because a) I cannot dance, 2) I was too tired and don't think my jet lag ever completely evened out. I might be on Hungary time right now, honestly, and d) uhhh I preferred sitting around and thinking "MAN IF I WAS DANCING RIGHT NOW IT WOULD PROBABLY BE REALLY COOL."

Like I said, Elizabeth, Laia, Karl came, and Eden ended up joining us later because airlines are silly nilly shonky wonky. My dad and I did not have an especially good time chatting it up with the people at United, who all read my name as either Tavina, Tavis, or Talia. Go competence! *evil eye*

Shouldn't complain though, I mean LONDON. I packed lightly (er, for me, anyway) expecting to buy a lot of clothes but I didn't buy a thing other than chocolate!

First we went to Dover Street Market the day we got there. DSM, oh you beautiful creature. Obviously the clothes are amazing (hi Comme, Rodarte, Lanvin, Kirkwood, hi) but the interior is so rad. I don't really know what I'm talking about when I say stuff about the ~interior design~ but all I know is it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside and good vibes are good vibes are good vibes. Oh and BTDUBZ, I tried trying on a Junya dress but gave up after a good ten minutes because I just couldn't figure it out. For a second just now I was about to suggest preschoolers be given Junya Watanabe dress puzzles to enhance their figuring-things-out skills but uhh they should be put in my closet instead-I mean, y'know, think of the children!Hi Nicholas Kirkwood, hi.So cute! From my favorite Charles Anastase collection. Being at DSM and Luella were really torturous because they carried SS 09 collections and I liked Spring/Summer this year way better than Autumn/Winter.
All elevators should have this on the inside. *Reaches*Laia and me inside one of the port-a-potty changing rooms, painted red. Believe it.
So cute!

A few days later my dad and I met up with Isaac and John from LOVE and we went to different markets and Beyond Retro and Rough Trade. Rough Trade was really cool but because I could get most of the albums here in The States (as everyone over there kept calling them) and because of the exchange rate I didn't get anything. Beyond Retro was kind of like every vintage store I've ever been in, to be honest? Again, currency trublez as well.

My dad and I also went to Luella and Topshop. Luella has the cutest store with the cutest clothes and I wanted to give all of them a big hug. I tried on this dress, which actually went to my ANKLES, but looked amazing that way, and would still look amazing when I would grow, and fit it more properly. Not for $700 though (a SALE price, mind you and your mom). Sadfaceeeeee.

I was considering buying one of the tops, but my dad quickly steered me towards Topshop where things were cheaper (by a little). We weren't in there for long because the air conditioning was messed up, it was crowded, and we didn't have time to take a good look. Nothing that caught my eye agreed with my wallet (er, ziploc bag. RECESSIONISTA CHIC!) so mehhh.

Other random London tidbits:Napkin writings.
Random Chanel van in the middle of the street, whaddup.
Green neon and gray, one of my favorite combinations!
~NOM~
More shoes.
Tourists!
Okay, time to catch up on jet lag, if I'm lucky. I hope I can go to London again soon.

"i am going to have an anger baby. it will not be named pee because it is an anger baby and i am angry."

Sooo
All this secrecy and stuff is now confirmed-I'm going to London, uh, tonight! For what I'm not supposed to say but I'm so incredibly excited and will take lots of pictures. Our hotel has free Wifi so maybe I will still update, if I don't decide that having easy access to good chocolate means that nothing else matters (read: it does.)

Sup, Anna Piaggi? This will totally be me over there, man. The old lady with a cane showing lots of British pride part, not the incredibly awesome brain part. WELL HAY AS LONG AS I HAVE LOOKS!
I'm bringing lots of those "paper websites" that we call "Books" on the 8 hour plane. Eden is packing 31 hours so I can't complain. Just rhyme about it. And possibly beat box. Laia is coming, so is Elizabeth. We plan on getting my wife something very special because she can't come, thus making any pillow fights less fun, and most things that involve brains, harder.
Oy, that one wasn't s'POSED to rhyme, but it kinda does. Whutinthewhut.
So yeah, guess that's it? YAyyyy. So psyched. Maybe I'll see some of you over at the other side of the pond! Which is funny, because it's not a pond. It is funny because the squirrel is dead (omg, anyone else see UP?! Sorz, random.)
Kevvviiiiin. Kevvviiiiin.
Alrighty, goodbye children. Going to London + chanting Torah=I am now a man.
xxx
Um, dudeeeez. I think it's time to tell sanity nice knowin ya and have a fun time at...school. Or somewhere anal and smart. Oh god, school! How do I go back there in the fall after this? Kerazy plans are in the works right now. I don't want to speak too soon but I do enjoy being annoying and secretive. Meh meh meh meh meh.
So much to catch up on. These are pictures I took of how to wear these striped American Apparel shorts for the Weardrobe Closet. I took out items from that place over a month and a half ago. Fail.childhood closet button down and top. slow and steady wins the race sunglasses. f21 headband.
Took these so long ago I can't even remember the thought process! No clue why I matched these things together but whatevs.
vintage top and scarf. f21 glasses.
uo top and necklace. jewel osco socks. thrifted shoes. vintage givenchy sunglasses.

LA was a month ago and I still have the second half of the trip to cover. Oopsydoops. I am half busy, one fourth lazy and one fourth trying to not spend as much time on the computer. I just bought lots of new books and I want to actually read them.
WHOA, back up. "Books?" What's a "book?" Yeah, they're kind of strange.. sort of like one of those recordings on your iPod of people telling a story only on paper? I know, kids these days.

Before I go:
8 year old at camp: What are you singing?
Me: Single Ladies by mah gurl Beyonce.
Him: Beyonce? Hm. Never heard of her.
Me: Oh, she's rad. ALL THE SINGLE LADIES, ALL THE SINGLE LADIES
8 year old: Just let me know when you're done, okay? *plugs ears*

[insert dry bit about how kids love me, i really am just so approachable, etc., here]

what's your name? devon? well they're just different letters! arranged differently!

Camp has started so I gotsta dress somewhat comfortably. Poopy!
Until I can be impractical again and actually feel inspired, random obnoxious musings about random people at the CFDA awards? Yes? GOD I KNOW MY BLOG IS SO INTELLECTUAL. 13 YEAR OLD PRODIGY OMG.
Moustache+purple plaid FTW.Hi old man, didn't hear you over the sound of how rad my bff Bernadette is. 3 years ago we did that thing where you donate $10 to her charity program and she sends you a ~*personalized*~ autograph. It came literally, like, 2 years late but she's Bernadette Peters, she can take her goddamn time.Oh, I love seeing someone wear the kooky clay bead Isaac Mizrahi dress to something like this!Again, no idea who this chick us but the Thakoon (?) dress looks like crinkly blue paper and I just love it.I am so so incredibly happy that Kate and Laura won womenswear designer of the year. Ugh, they deserved it, yo. I love how casually awesome they look too. And Kirsten Dunstydunstydunst (fun name) looks great in their tunic dress and those beautiful Kirkwood shoes. So happy for them!!If you've got a huge red Zac Posen dress and you're standing there alone, FLAUNT IT.Justin Timberlake will never be Zachary Quinto. And then Anna's all.. werq. I'm actually surprised she isn't jumping. Against a beige backdrop.
Also, emotion! How fresh! I'm sure it's the new thing for fall, along with menswear! And jumping! Against beige backdrops!!11!!!Never not awesome! Where's Karen though? *photoshops self in picture*
And HEY, speaking of photoshop, while I'm being extremely brainy and intellectual tonight, here's something an awesome chick named Sarah made:This kind of thing is so not good for my ego! From left to right, Rich, Suz, Spencer. Seriously one of the nicest things ever made! Thank you Sarah!

hay gurl

I was trying to find scans and articles from Sassy magazine for a project and found this shoot of Chloe Sevigny as Edie Sedgwick from Blair magazine. For a while I disliked Chloe Sevigny because I hated her character in Melinda and Melinda. Then I realized it just means she's a good actress, along with having fun style! Oopysdoops.
So so good, had to share.
Alllllso, I'm gonna go out on a whim and ask that if anyone has any issues of Sassy (before it sold out to Teen) could they pretty please pretty pretty scan them in (maybe send?!) for this project? Lots of fashion bloggers would love you forever and shower you with invisible Comme and McQueen! It's a lot to ask but couldn't hurt to try..
Also, another picture from LA that I'm just posting now because I suck at email! This is with Jenny from the Opening Ceremony store. I wish I'd gotten a picture of her amazing necklaces!
Ignore me. Awkard child is awkward.

it is for some reason amusing to spenc i was so thrilled by the tattoo in my botan rice candy but why wouldn't i be it is a giraffe in an AIR BALLOON

The other day a lovely package from Kristin at IKO IKO (totally hitting up on the next LA trip) arrived and ugh, so much perfection. These beautiful floral leggings and tote, which incidentally both match this collage I made some time ago perfectly!
OBLIGATORY CREDIT IS OBLIGATORY. HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, GRACE.
Anyway, yes, I wore them right away to see Star Trek (for the second time, natch) with a couple friends and eat massive amounts of ice cream sandwiches and cheerios. I changed into this after the movie but tried to dress kind of futuristic going to see it, just to show some respect for the GQMFs. Wish I'd gotten a better picture of the shirt I cut off a thrifted dress; it's an easy fabric to shape so I tried making it all spacey.
I actually took these today but whatevs.
Uh, that was relevant.
I'm sorry Christopher Kane, I rather like florals!
The turban is so epic, I bought it that day at this antique store which I've been visiting over and over again for seriously months gazing at it. Finally we were on the store's street and I just ran ahead those slowpokes and into the store and bought the turban without thinking twice. Cost me 24 bones, more than I like to spend on clothes but I couldn't find another turban that even came CLOSE to how great it is in any store or online and I JUST CHANTED TORAH GODDAMNIT so...that is my logic. Will get a picture next time I wear it which will be very soon.
So, clockwise from upper left: vintage turban, thrifted shirt, vintage Docs via eBay, childhood closet dress, Rowena Sartin tote and leggings from IKO IKO.
These gifts came in this lovely fabric bag that I tied in a bow and wore today, which brings me to my next obligatory life-altering story of hanging out with Spencer! K SO, first we were good little //alt// kids and went to the music store and bought records (I would be pretentious and name them but I feel hipster enough having just lugged around 2 Lomo cameras and buying a copy of The Virgin Suicides [writing that here will surely bring an interesting new readership to this blog, probably not unlike the middle-aged man that asked me if me or my mom put the bow in my hair while in the checkout line at Walgreens. Srsly gtfo.] so ALLOW ME TO REFRAIN from telling you about my Juno-esque tastes [still don't know if I consider this good or bad] and just spam this post with parenthesis and brackets and run-on sentences instead.) I think he was talking.
Then we came back to my house because I need my Nesquik and to show him my shrines (for what I will not say because restraining orders on geniuses are not fun) and went to a few other stores. Borders, Walgreens, the antique store where I got my turban to try on pretty hats, and a fun local store.
We bought postcards and kid drugs! Razzles, giant pixie stick, that candy where you can actuallyeatthewrapperomg, and candy cigarettes.I HAVE A PIXIE STICK. YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID.
....I LOOK LIKE MIKEY FROM RECESS. YOUR ARGUMENT MIGHT BE VALID.
So many cameras! Ok we're kind of hipsters just shut up T_TI may fail at having a brain but Spencer fails at something much more vital to living.
Is that one cent difference REALLY necessary? Just had to share.
We talked about teh interwebs, blogs, you, your mom, your cat, school, summer, camp, when people from school start going to your summer camp, writing, fashion, Mama Rei, music, Anna being obsessed with The Pixies, teevee, fetuses with laptops, Dave Eggers, and, once again, your mom.
CASE IN POINT: Florals are awesome, so is Spencer! Today was full of lol and win.
