my heart is drenched in wine

I tried incorporating Gareth Pugh into today's outfit but it didn't really work. Freaking epic designer but hard to take inspiration from, non? It's not like you can pick up checkered pleated body armor with clown ruffles and metallic ski masks at your stop to the Goodwill, after all. Although I do suppose that's what makes his designs even more endearing...

Since my massive shoulders seemed to be such a big hit with the kids at school and Anonymous commentators, I decided to try it again with CD cases and the fluffy cotton found in the bottom of jewelry boxes. When Anons and Uggs-wearing peers don't like my outfit, I feel like something must be right, to be honest. A strange perspective, but I guess it works for me. I feel accomplished when something I wear causes controversy and bugs the crap out of people. Spiteful, malicious, or vengeful? Hmmm...all of the above. *cackles*

I will now stare at you intensely for reinforcement and dramatic effect~~
On a sidenote, I actually believe Uggs can be worn well, but would never fork over more than $100 for shoes that are bad for your feet and are usually bought-at my school, anyway-for the purpose of fitting in. I don't think I could ever pull them off anyways, whether I attempt it in the Japanese street style way or Abercrombie uniform. My cape around my waist in back and a white sheer top in front. Two tone American Apparel tights. My victorian vest over a black long sleeve (comfiest thing evz, FYI). The jewelry box fluff between my vest and long sleeve. I also wore white gloves but they're such a pain to wear when fumbling around with a camera...
In class I got bored and started Rodarte-slashing the white top I'm wearing as a skirt. Hey, it was the only way to keep myself from doing this below! Though I guess the fluffy shoulders would have been a nice little treat after all these years of using desks as pillows...

your effort at gareth pugh was admirable, you definitely nailed the right angle shoulder shape. there's always time for DIY tin can/garbage bin lid/ scrap metal reconstruction projects in the future !

Hey, your blog is really great. It's so nice to read. :)

very chic outfit today! I feel your pain, when I was in middle school I used to sew capes in home ec and wear them to school. the principal no longer let me babysit his children after seeing me in those. but then in high school thanks to art and theater, everyone wanted me to teach them how to make clothes. so, basically, you pretty much rule now and will rule even more as time goes on!

rodarte slashin!
i need to get some of that in my life.

i don't know about uggs. i've spent about three years of my life staring at them on other girls and frankly i think they need to disappear..as soon as possible.

the majority of people at my school, as is the case i think with the majority of american teens, is that they aren't entirely creative with their wardrobe. it's basically the abercrombie uniform, athletic mesh shorts and baggy sweatpants (they're all athletes. i'm not.) and messy racoon eyeliner with poker straight hair.

i wish there were more people that take risks, really. i would love to have more peers that try to incorporate gareth pugh in their wardrobe...

Wow, cd cases for shoulder pads! I totally applaud your creativity, but it sounds a little uncomfortable, no? You look splendid, though.

Oh I love this!

I'm personally disappointed if I don't get at least one funny look for what I'm wearing. Once I wore purple jeans and about ten people told me that they were purple - it was amazing!

Cape as a skirt is a grrrrreat idea.

I hate when people hate on things just because that thing is "popular". (This is not about you Tavi, I just need to vent and you mentioned Uggs) :] It's like those "hipster" kids, who don't want to be labeled and say that they dress "unique" but in reality they are just another clique. They hate on people that wear things like Abercrombie, calling them Aberzombies, b/c they wear the same stuff, and they act all superior. It's like for them, hating on all things "popular" is the cool thing to do. I don't know, it just bugs me.

Again, this isn't about anyone, and Tavi I think you dress awesome and you really are unique and different and cool. :)

the skirt/top thingy that you shredded looks awesome! how satisfying is ripping something up! so fuuuunnn.

I totally get what you're sayin' here.
For example, I wore my shiny stirrup tights from AA today (and wore them so you could actually see that they were stirrup tights), and people were so confused. It made me happy. Haha.

Tavi said...

Thanks guys! Yep yep, Norah Jones.

The rodarte slashing is in part due to the material of the shirt, it already has holes but I basically just lifted up threads with the led in my mechanical pencil and toreeeeee...

CDs were uncomfortable, but somehow easier to keep intact than the t-shirts? Haha.

hazel-Totally get what you mean. I think anything can be worn well, but the common hatred for Uggs is because they are usually associated with a Hollister uniform. Lol I am getting so tired of the smudged eyeliner and hair straightening too. It's bad for your hair!

Angie-I catch your drift. I think it's stupid when people that spend $300 on a haircut that is supposed to make them look like they just woke up and wear an outfit straight out of the American Apparel catalogue think that just because they aren't wearing Abercrombie means they're being ridiculously creative. It's kind of pretentious, yeah?

Very nice. You know what I really like? The Cleric uniforms from Equilibrium.

well done on your rodarte-ing!!! what if you did that to a few shirts and created a dress or cloak... *wrings hands together with narrowed eyes*
