Just one look and I can hear a bell ring

I think people at school are starting to-gulp-like my outfits. CRAZY, right? Even some of my teachers do, and teachers are supposed to be boring old hags that listen to Mozart and like pinstripe suits and bring books about biology to pretend to read during school hours but once they're home they whip out the romance novels and get cracking. People who you least expect (preps?) are complimenting the least expected...of...things...to...uh...be complimented. It's not like I'm wearing something that is easy to understand and simple like skinnies and a big tee, it's like crazy CDG-inspired stuff that has like a billion different prints and fabrics and layers and dead cats. Well, not layers, that's an exaggeration. But everything else is true.

Wow. I'm an ungrateful goat.

So, this is motivating me to dress more CRAZY. CONFUSE these people like an SAT problem. Mess with their MINDS. CONFUSE THEM SO HARD THAT IT SCARS THEM FOR LIFE SO THEY'LL HAVE SCARY FLASHBACKS AT RANDOM WHEN THEY'RE OLDER. FLASHBACKS OF A ZEBRA WEARING A FLORAL DRESS RIDING A MOTORCYCLE IN OUTER SPACE WHILE SINGING A SONG FROM THE "LEONARD COHEN ESSENTIALS" ALBUM.

Sound like a plan? Good.

Outfit from a few days ago. This is TAO/Japanese street style-inspired.
I would've written on my face, but it looks mad stupid with my glasses on. Plus I've done that before, correct? I thrifted these shoes a while ago and they are the solution to my every outfit. See, I have small feet (YOU? OF ALL PEOPLE? NO WAY!) so it's hard finding good shoes. Naturally, I bought these as soon as my beady eyes spotted em: And you know how annoying ebay ads are. "Rollover to expand! You know you want to!"
The shoes are a little big and clunky and awkward looking (and Land's End...), but that's just the way I like it.
I have Belle here because she is my CDG/Tao buddy. We stalk Rei Kawakubo together, and actually recently made the addition of manslave Nigel Barker to our marriage. Not. Too. Shabby.

Definitely understand what you're saying! When someone compliments a weird outfit it's like "This outfit is a jigsaw puzzle you're not supposed to solve!"
But it's still a good thing.

Trade links? Already have yours up!

Ha, I used to feel that way when I was in school. It was such a let down when the shock value was gone. I started shocking people by just wearing jeans and a sweatshirt (on my lazy days).

Lately I've been too busy trying to be an adult to do anything super creative (lame I know). Well, that and I have a massive t-shirt collection I feel guilty not wearing them. Also I just moved to a warmer climate than I'm used to.

But I digress. Fashion causes a response and it's disappointing when you don't get the one you want. I'm sure you'll muster the courage and floral print to move on.

i don't think you have much to worry about. it's when they start emulating you when you need to worry! after all -- there is only room for one avant garde fashionista in every school. =)

this post made me giggle so much, i love it! and i have to say, you're one of the few people i can think of who really does create outfits as original as they come, so i wouldn't worry!

Do not be shocked that people like your outfits - you are fantabulous!

P.S. I really want to have a flashback like that.

That's great that you're classmates are being supportive. Embrace it, think of this as something to push and experiment even more!
I like the risks you took in that outfit, somehow it all does click.

fashion fille-in the post toolbar there are buttons that have things like colors and sizes, you just kinda hafta click around. Highlight the text you want and click what you want to do to it...that was a kinda sucky explanation but I hope that helps! :)

I've found that people generally like more "out there" stuff people wear, even if they would never have the guts/style to wear it themselves... and yeah when teachers compliment my clothes and it like, um....

But you are so obscenely cool that how couldn't they like your outfits?

Hahaha LOVE IT!! I would totally dress crazy just to see their reaction. But embrace the comments, they secretly all want to be you! And I do like the image of all those dusty teachers going home to read Mills and Boon novels :)
