bruise violet

Comme des Garcons Fall 07, Juliet's room in Romeo + Juliet, my Hole shrine, Chanel Fall 09, unknown, the Virgin Suicides, Drew Barrymore, barbies by unknown, CdG Fall 07, Marcia Brady, Claire Danes as Juliet in Romeo + Juliet, Ed Ruscha, self-portrait I took for the new issue of POP (more on that later), But I'm a Cheerleader!, someone else's Hole shrine (source unknown), and CdG Fall 07. The CdG collection was supposed to be a girl's journey or something, so the placements on the dress went from bows and tiny dresses to stuffed gloves on the chest and hips with other kinds of lumps in between.

I love how a lot of your pictures radiate darkness...but still have a bit of brightness in them...how do you do that? Such a genius.

I just watched Romeo + Juliet on Netflix a few weeks ago. So excited that someone over 10 years younger than me is into it too. I LOOOOVEEEEDD that movie when it came out (still do) I had like every single R + J memorabilia all over my room. And I was obsessed with Leo, as was the rest of the female population my age. I saw it the day the movie came out!

what an eclectic mix of things you put together. i am a huge fan of the chanel bag, so different but so cool. i always love accents of barbie. so fabulous that you included some of my girl.

I appreesh the Ruscha inclusion. You should read Shopgirl- I think you'd really dig it; Steve Martin name-drops CDG as easily as he does Ruscha.

PS
this. always.

the CdGFall07 reminds me of cotton candy Pierrot, blowing out from a bubble at a carnival. Especially the second photo. I have a bit of an obsession with pierrot, harlequin, buffoons or anything related to the Commedia dell'arte. Take care xD xoxo

the hues... these pastel shades of pink and turquoise blue add up to something eerie, can't quite put my finger on it. anyways, what are you wearing there? it isn't a boa. looks a bit like a giant muff tried to swallow you ;) is it one of these "50s things that glamorous women draped around their shoulders but i forgot the name", kinda like a short cape? ahh, the suspense ^___^ whatever it is, it LOOKs good ^__^ finally, let me exploit the presence of a Ruscha work as a lame excuse to recommend Exit Through The Gift Shop to anyone. pretty amusing, sometimes even hilarious movie. OBEY ^______^
damn, gotta cut down on the sugar, sorry for the verboseness

The bubble photo is so nice! I was using a bubble wand with some kids a while ago, and we took some pictures. But then looking back at the photos, you can’t see the bubbles, so it just looks like we’re performing some sort of weird free-form dance :-)

The self-portrait is great! The way you’re in the foreground, with the corner of the room in the background, and then all of the shapes and textures - creates a real 3D feel. And then there’s the contrast between the intensity of your gaze and the softness and pastel colourness (Go away spell-checker!!!) of everything else.

Alexi Frest said...

I love those first photos - I love THIS shade of violet. And Drew Barrymore looked intriguing as a Lolita.
As for Claire Danes, how I adored Romeo and Juliet back then in '97... Its scenes were so crazy and modern, very spectacular.

Great moodboard, I remember seeing that Chanel vacuum formed bag a while back and thinking it was so cool (for a girl of course!)! And I'm pretty sure I witnessed Anna Wintour rejecting those CDG glove jackets from a shoot in The September Issue! Where does 'bruise violet' arise from, or is it just the underlying colour scheme? - POPTUCKSHOP

Anonymous said...

I believe that the pink jacket in the end with the hand is in, The September Issue.
