sonia rykiellla, ella, ella, ay, ay, ay

Whaddup outdated pop references? Anyway...
I loooved Sonia Rykiel. I imagine that for models it must be a very fun show since they can smile and laugh and be a little goofy and not stagger like they are going to murder someone/walk very intently towards the end of a walkway only to angrily turn back.
Untitled 1
The hair discs were used throughout the show, I'm definitely going to have to make myself one, somehow. They look a little like berets, but without the cheesiness of berets in a fashion show set in Paris, which is a cute, very French and very Rykiel touch. I love the quilted Chanel purse fer yer bod (similar to the quilted Alexander Wang shorts? If you can afford to buy both I demand that you wear them together and send me a picture. To accompany the picture, howsabout the clothing you wore in it, as well. Just for, um, practicality's sake.)
PS, the sheer purple biker shorts layered underneath idea is super rad.
Untitled 2
Yay cute triangle shirts (that I feel could be really hipster but aren't?) tucked into nice highwaisted pants.
Untitled 3
Nice and classy. Won't be surprised to see Mobama wearing any of these pieces.
Untitled 4
The trench is a BIT too similar to the Prada one from forever ago and I am not totally on board with the palm tree (guess it makes it more Spring) but I am all for the random mutating shoulder bouquet and the SR initials. And the fancy little number on the far left is calling my name.

What a lovely thing to come home to after throwing up in gym class! I swear that is as stereotypically "middle school" as it gets.

love love love the pink in the first collage! And your second photo triptych looks awesome! Also loving the yellow in the 3rd group and the cagey jumpsuit in the last collage.

Dayum! Good show S-R!

FANTASTIC. I love the colour choices on all of these pieces, but I'm not crazy about the trench. It is also agreed that the palm tree is a no as well. It clashes with the rest of the pieces.

uh oh you threw up in gym class? feel better tavi! I really like how the models aren't giving the "death stare", like you said...and I really like how you transition between "avant-garde" and "wearable" (although I'd be a bit surprised to see Michelle O. rocking the bike shorts.)

Hmm I agree with you on most all counts.
I really like the shape of the palm tree dress, but you're right; the palm tree doesn't really fit.
I also love how it's more happy and carefree instead of super serious and dead.

Ahh and I also love the blue dress in the first one, and the yellow one in the third. :P

Ahh middle school, great times.

But on to fashion! I must say that I truly enjoy reading the things you have to say about the clothing on the runway. You genuinely make me smile. I really dig your style, and what you see as fashionable. Fun, unique, and pushing what would qualify as "normal" day wear. You rock it!

If I had near the sense at your age that you do now....I'd probably be a super hero. So once you start flying, please post a video so I can see ;D

you are SO right about the palm tree

It's like an overtly sexy madmen! Quite the eclectic taste you've got there! (feel better younger one D':)

The top two outfits on the first picture..(left and middle) remind me of pot holders...those ones you use when the pot is hot. :O

If we buy both you demand we send you a picture? How about we send you a photo of a Giant Elephants Penis after its been bitten by the Great Wasp of the Swamp?

Seriously?

Also, hair discs do not look like berets.

And its SWAGGER not stagger.

SR makes me happy! ALWAYS. I want to make the hat too. I say just cut out a circle in cardboard, pad it with padding... stuff & finish it off with a cute fabric.

Smiling and laughing? On a catwalk?
Sonia Rykiel certainly knows how to make fashion fun!
I swear it's supposed to be, anyway.
Everyone else, why so serious?

Love the fun in fashion. The funniest designer ever though is Fam Irvoll. Check out her funky cake head pieces: http://www.famirvoll.com/index.php?s=picturesofw08

Maybe you can spray paint a cd to make the disk headpiece. I would probably paint mine black and then hand paint birds and branches on it, ooh, I see it in my head already :)

LOVE to see the models smiling! Looks like they're having fun and loving looking fabulous! Makes me want to buy the clothes much more than scary "I'm fierce" faces

This is about as whimsical as it gets, good work SR.

Sorry to hear about the barf. Once I had to get stitches after splitting my chin open in middle school gym class. That was fun.

The models look so much prettier when they're smiling :) And Sonia Rykiel's stripes are always cute and lust-worthy

I also loved Sonia Rykiel's collection. And the look of genuine glee on the models' faces is a pure delight. I'm a hat designer and have made a version of this felt facinator, and I totally look forward to making my own version of this very chic disc chapeau as well!
I love your fashion commentary, it's really insightful!

There's something about the hats - I kindof want a white one with a yellow middle - yes it will look like a fried egg and who wants that on their head but......

Unknown said...

tavi - to really make those disk thingys "your own," you should go to your local thrift stors, buy some really awesome old records, and cut them down into different size circles. but i wouldnt paint, i'd keep the records as they are, as colorful homages to some of your favorite musicians! the rest is just glue guns and cheapo headbands.

would be especially cool to get a bowie record to wear with your bowie-inspired outfit, etc.

ohhhhh, i might just have to do this myself!

Caitlin said...

Hmm the "palm tree" looks eerily similar to a cannabis leaf and probably has something to do with why the models were all allowed to smile and be goofy. I'm guessing Sonya throws an awesome after party!
