"I think it's very good!" -Our mom
"You dyed your hair without our permission?!" -Our dadWe were aiming to enter it in a Vimeo contest, not because we really thought we'd win but because we needed a deadline and it would've been cool for it to be judged by the folks there. There was a last-minute technical mishap and we missed the entry deadline, but then we decided it's more fun this way and that artists shouldn't compete with each other. (Uh, I retract that statement now. We were making ourselves feel better. Sometimes contests can be good things.)
For a while now I've been in a kind of rut where I second-guess my outfits and are more conscious about the people around me whenever I go anywhere, so it was great to just do something like this and remember that it can be fun to embrace stares. And fun to wear Comme des Garcons toe shoes. And have red hair. Oh, I didn't tell you guys about my red hair! Sheba did it a couple weeks ago. This is it at its best, methinks. Enjoy!
Love the film! And your hair looks fantastic. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo Hannah
Oooh You are very pretty with red hair :D
ReplyDeleteNice video !
Love it, watched it when you posted in on twitter :)
ReplyDeleteIt IS very good, and your hair looks lovely (and matches your shoes perfectly).

ReplyDeleteYour sister is a genius for thinking up something so simple, yet affective.
The poor girl, her mum never having time for her. And her writing her findings on he wall. It really is genius.

ReplyDeleteI also get scared when I click balloons.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this film also reminds me of amelie a little bit, theres something really peaceful about the way you patiently tie the spoons and things onto the trees and cars, i like it!:)

Sooo cute <3 I love this video!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Germany :)
That was quite something.
ReplyDeleteVery odd, but cute.
The video is beautiful -- color, music, words, and star! I agree, the red is your best yet. And yes, if you haven't seen run lola run, she's your girl.
ReplyDeleteSo many things to like about this project, but maybe my favorite is that you made it with your sister. Just lovely.
love this film. it's really beautiful. so many favorite moments that i connect with ! the writing on the wall about girls growing up and losing their confidence is so sad but so true :( siigh.

You look like Scarlet Johansson. Especially when drinking something.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great! I loved the video, remind me why i took an intrest in fashion in the first place.

ReplyDeletethis makes me want to get a chalkboard wall.
ReplyDeleteAww~ Cute film! It was artistic and entertaining. :]
ReplyDeleteI love the hair. I've been meaning to dye mine red for quite some time now. I'm just lazy ;_____;

ReplyDeleteMore videos please.
Do you know you resemble a mix of michelle williams and scarlett johansson (back in her Ghost World days when she could act). bella bella bella!
I just realized that I've never seen you in jeans. I really like the ones you have on in the video (thrifted? vintage?) and I also love your red hair. Very Angela Chase.
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteReally inspiring and cheerful video. Something positive to start the day with.
You're good with fashion and you're agood actor!
ReplyDeleteI am 23, and I want to be like you when I grow up.
ReplyDeletelove, trinket.

ReplyDeleteI loved it, it made me feel at ease.
ReplyDeleteRed really suits you. I'm a bit bummed that I can't dye my hair a forest-green like I had intended to do.
I love short art videos like this.
ReplyDeleteI personally took it as a reprocentative of growing older, you feel that you just want to have fun and go crazy but then an older person cuts you down telling you to grown up (I thought this from your spoons being ripped off after the joy of them all being put up) then at the end you popping your own balloons is like your kind of doing as society wants you to and thus killing youth and so called 'growing up'
You should make more videos! :D
I loved this so much! What a wonderful way to start my day :) Thank you to you and your sister for making such a beautiful little treasure!
ReplyDeleteGaby xoxo
nice. and you look so pretty!

love the video by the way.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the time that my friends and I ran around town taping pieces of binder paper to things. We had drawn and written on them, most of them were nonsense. Then as we were walking back to her house we saw this lady staring at one taped to a fence. She looked like she was going to rip it off. She reached out her hand as if to grab it, but then she didn't. I like to think it meant something.

that was seriously a breath of fresh air!!! i was sad because every time i checked ur blog:
ReplyDelete1. You hadn't posted anything new.
2. it was very short and had no pictures of ur cloths and u ect. (which i always look to for insperation.....)
this was a wonderful short film! i loved it, and i seriously need to do something like that sometime, because i'm 14 and slowly i feel my childhood slipping away, but no way is it getting away from me that easily! thanks so much Tavi, (and Tavi's sister!!!) you've done it again! you've inspired me, and you've chosen to still be yourself even with everyone around you wearing masks! i can't thank you enough!!! keep the posts coming!!!!!
-mary
p.s i love love love love your hair!!! ahh it's beyond words! i've been thinking of growing my hair out (it's in a pixie right now) and man do i want to die it that color now!!! ahhh) okay peace!
This is great! You guys did a great job. Can you please please tell me where I can find that song on the end, past my bedtime? I'm in love with it!
ReplyDeleteHey hi Tavi
ReplyDeleteI'm so curious about you saying that you feel more self-conscious about your outfits now. Is it because people recognise you from the blog and have an expectation that you will always be wearing something mind-blowing, or is it to do with the clothes themselves maybe not speaking to how you want to express yourself right now?
(WHOA! and suddenly it got all deep!)
love the red hair, and that yellow shirt in the beginning! i think i've got to get me a nice bright yellow shirt now :)

ReplyDeleteDear girl, you will light the world up.
ReplyDeleteOr, if you choose to be a quiet genius, you will send a glow out among your intimates.
Whatever you chose, I'll be glad there's a Tavi out there. (Well, as long as you don't do anything, you know, bad.)
I love Chalk. I predict it'll grow to have quite a following. Your sister is very talented. (I hope she's able to hang on to the ideals she brought along home from her travels.) One note: on Spoon morning, you have ruffled socks, but through Spoon day, they are different. Sorry to mention it.
Also - you frequently make me remember myself. I don't know if you'll understand that, but it's true.
Finally, It took until the viewing of the film for your dad to know that you'd dyed your hair red? Or did he just assume you'd had your mom's permission? Or (I don't know much about these things) was it a rinse out dye?
You're fantastical.
this is great, well done!!
ReplyDeleteWatching that was by far the best part of my day.

P.S Your sister is a genius, thinking up something like this.
P.P.S Who filmed/edited it? They did a great job!
It's all there. The emerging ravishing beauty, the through-the-camera charisma, the knowing on-film charm that makes you unbearably talented.
ReplyDeleteI was certain you would become either a major fashion designer or artist, which is still probable. But after seeing you in this amazingly adorable short, I am beginning to wonder if acting isn't also going to feature even more in your future as well.
A great film in every way. Kudos to you and Rivkah.
I watched it twice, it's so fresh and it genuinely feels really you from what you can pick up from your blog.

ReplyDeleteLove it :))))
ReplyDeletemade me laugh, made wonder

Are the motions in the film supposed to be that jerky or is it just my computer that's too slow?
ReplyDeleteDidn't intend on it but got a tad choked up when they cut down your spoons. I guess we've all been there at some stage: having someone trying to rain on your individuality.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the share,

The film was so whimsical and beautiful. I love seeing unique films that don't follow anything but the ideas of those who made them. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the hair is amazing. I adore red hair.

Hey everyone, it's really nice to hear such good feed back. Tavi and I have a lot of fun making it and it meant a lot to both of us, so it's really nice that you all can enjoy it like we do and take something away from it.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who want "Past My Bedtime" I am trying to get my friend to post it and then I will link it in my blog. It's a great song, isn't it.
Thanks again,

This video is awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt inspires me to go and post little trinkets on cars and trees in London, kinda like a guerrilla street art project!
Amazing job Rivkah and Tavi! What a talented family!
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE THE SAME AMERICAN APPAREL WHITE PETTICOAT I HAVE (at 6:46 into the video!)...right? The colours in the film really pop- they make me feel happy. :)
ReplyDeleteDear Tavi and Rivkah ~

Stick with the red! It really is your color =]
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your film! And the cinematography was fantastic.

you look gorgeous! I can just imagine you doing that every day: making nesquik, tying spoons onto trees, and wearing comme shoes. that sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteroses are red, and so is your head <3
ReplyDelete"There was a last-minute technical mishap and we missed the entry deadline, but then we decided it's more fun this way and that artists shouldn't compete with each other."
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad that you said this. Because you are judging the ASVOFF fashion film contest for which I worked really hard on an entry. Sometimes competing with each other is necessary if you want your work seen.
You look adorable and the new color suits you. Good job, girls!
ReplyDeleteah why isnt my sister/brother this cool? I want an older sister!!
ReplyDeleteNow I understand! =)

ReplyDeleteScarJo plus Claire Danes=Tavi.
ReplyDeleteTavi, please don't fret too much, and remember that no matter what people say about your clothes, your hair, anything at all- as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters in the end- period. And isn't that what fashion is all about anyways, having fun?
ReplyDelete-Cat
Your hair is AMAZING !!!
ReplyDeleteand i love this short film, very cute indeed :)
Tavi enchants the video to me, and also master the fashion like your, you do not know the luck that you must to have garden. And to be able hacerte those great photos. Good that this all very chulo.^^

ReplyDeleteWhat I love about this video besides how you show what objects and color mean in your lives(I'm a material culture scholar) is two people (you and your sister) encouraging each other's artistry and helping each other to execute ideas. So many times, I say to someone, "Let's do this!" And the response is a list of why "this" wouldn't work. Other times, I meet creative people, and I say, "Let's do this!" And they tell me how "this" is possible and help me to execute it. And this video reminds me to always keep searching for the people who collaborate with me in the execution of dreams.
ReplyDeleteO loooooooove the film! I love you Tavi ♥
ReplyDeletelove the vid, and the spoon scene is fave. It really does capture an amazing innocence of being young and open :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response, it means a lot. The film is so beautiful and it totally measured up to the hype from the critics.
ReplyDeleteSarah-Sure. I agree with you -- sometimes that is the way to get your work seen. Plus there is just SO much work out there, it sometimes has to be picked through.
ReplyDeleteI love your read hair! As a fellow red head I just get total envy for people who get it brighter then me. Such a pretty film. <3
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Let me know if you want come in Sardinia! Kisses from Italy CIAO! and sorry for my bad english..

ReplyDeletewhat a great video!
ReplyDeleteI was watching this vid with my music playing and you should listen to it to this track because I thought it fit really well---so funny, I thought it was the video music atfirst then I realized it was my own! the track is called before tigers (gold panda rmx) and its by Health. You have to loop the track twice but I swear its good good good
your film is so cute, and colorful
ReplyDeletei like colors like that.
your life is so artistic,
i's impressive.
You look great with red hair! And I can't begin to tell you how many levels of awesome this video has *-*
ReplyDeleteAbout embracing stares, I think it's good, you should be less conscious about people around you and just wear what makes you feel pretty and comfortable, no matter how much people stare at you.
So adorable! I love Love LOVE it! Well done :)
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing, reminded me so much of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind!
ReplyDeleteAnd you looked so beautiful, love you with red hair :D
Ahh you are starting to take notice about what people think? Tavi, this is the curse of growing up. Don't fall prey to it! Remember the whole reason why you have so many readers is because of YOU. the way YOU dress. Not the way the girls of seventeen do.
ReplyDeleteNicole
your hair looks RIDICULOUSLY good!
ReplyDeleteyeah - you look like michelle williams. lucky!
ReplyDeleteTavi this is a beautiful and inspiring video. It made me smile. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love this. You and sis are extremely talented. I hope to see more from you both.

Hey, man, you're nutting out life! You're just rolling with the punches and dealing them out! And that's what it's all about. Keep at it, dude!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me so optimistic . Love Your hair <3
ReplyDeleteUm, I never really comment and I'm afraid my comment will kind of.. fade away in the... 198 other comments o_o
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say, I really love the video, and your hair! I have red hair too, we're hair buddies lol! :D I need to redye it though cause it faded A LOT and i dyed it pink too, but the pink was less permanent, so it's mostly the red showing. It's kind of orangy with blonde, red and pink streaks now.
Oh and you've made me realize.. I'm not all that fashiony but I just like fun clothes!! That's such a perfect way to describe it. I used to think I like fashion but I don't. Your blog, and hipster musings, are the only fashion blogs I read now.. other fashion blogs just seem so shallow.
Anddd I love Norwegian! (random much? :D) I'm learning Swedish but I really had my doubts if I should learn Norwegian or Swedish though but I figured I don't really know any Norwegian people or whatever so what's the point, heh. Norwegian and Swedish are both sooo easy.. I speak Dutch, English and German too and it all relates ^^
I hope you read this :3 bye~
A very special and dreamy film with a very pretty girl... ;D
ReplyDeleteYour red hair is really beautiful, you know!!
If I ever cut my hair i want that color, but I could not look as cute as you do anyway... :D
Best of luck with the new school in some weeks too.
The movie was so cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd you better keep that red hair, gurl...
