one was johnny who lived by himself

Untitled 1
Vivienne Westwood was like a Maurice Sendak character that runs away to start her own kingdom, AKA, what I would like to do, all the time, a lot. Paper crowns, crayon scribbles (some of which read "Prince Charming") and drapy dresses that could've come out of an older sister's dress-up box..plus, only Vivs could put her models in marker moustaches (time for me to revisit TOMAS, perhaps?) and it still make sense.
And, going back to the Maurice Sendak thing: Wild Rumpus crowns, anyone? That star on that grey sweatshirt is TOTALLY Really Rosie? LIFE COMPLETE.

  6. Can I have that first outfit and Vivienne? Seriously, I'm calling it for Alice.

Hum, and the second and third, the skirt and the asymetrical jacket from the last one or heck the semi-kimono jacket in the fourth. I've to say I think it's more Johnny Depp movies than Where the Wild Things Are. Maybe it's the striped pants and the pirate boots...

Going now to look at the rest of the showing. I think this is one of the better Westswood lines in a long time.

  12. I loved this collection, too (I actually wrote about it just yesterday...). The look on the first photo reminds me of Ms.Lovett for some reason :) And I just love the craziness that Westwood brings to fashion. And - these leather gloves? How cool are they :)

  13. i don't know how i let this collection just pass me by without noticing it. thank you thank you for posting this. the upper left is my favorite, i can hear the model talking in a cockney accent being bitter and nuts but totally free.

  14. god this collection really does look brilliant. the collision of each colors and patterns really emphasize the chaoticness of the "wild" life i guess. awesome crowns as well..

  15. I must say, I didn't really get this collection until reading some other blogger's comments on it, and I love yours the most. The crowns remind me so much of this show I used to watch, and it's bugging the hell out of me now because I can't remember the name. I think it started out as a book about potty training.
    Niiice.

  66. Really nice collection !!
and like the crowns on their head

These Crowns remind me of "Der kleine König" from Hedwig Munck

  67. I kept thinking this was Betsey Johnson as I was reading. Like Vivienne Westwood was deleted and Betsey was inserted. I didn't see this coming from Vivienne though! Either way, nice work!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey did u watch the Oscars? How about that fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So good! This kinda reminds me of the good 'ol punk days when Viv and Malc (to a more limited degree)did all the work themselves. I read somewhere (I think it was Jane Mulvagh's excellent biography) how Vivienne used to sit at the kitchen table printing images and stuff onto punk t-shirts using a kiddy printing set.

It's nice to see some of that raw creativity returning - after a long period of very polished work.

  70. I like the crowns... infact i may just get out some cellotape, yellow card and some crayolas :)

Anyhoo wanted to say I just adore Madame Westwood and think these looks would make perfect paper dolls!

BTW - I named you as my secret little sister -- thought you should be in on this! I just adore your blog and well I always wanted a little sis -- and so, well, tag, you're it!

Let's go for ice cream soon -- like MAY/JUNE when it's a bit warmer!

  72. Funny that so many see "Where the Wild Things Are" in this collection. I see it as a post modern Crusades effect, Jean d'Arc and the Spanish Inquisition.

But that might be a carry over from what I've been reading lately.
