AHA! New camera hath arrived! Also I swear this is the last billionth post in a row about my hair being blue >.<

I was told I look like an Oompa Loompa during lunch and it made my day increasingly better.

And pictures of pretty dyed hair from Lula Issue 6:

COTTON CANDY HAIR FTW. Um, that's it for tonight, YER OLD MAN IS GRUMPY. Video editing software, school projects about the Lattimer Massacre, and technology all hate me right now, I think.

  6. Yay! I have blue hair too!
I feel like we now share some unspeakable bond.
Like some secret society only blue-haired people know about.
If we ever pass on the street, we'll give each other a wink and then whip out some ridiculous handshake we both somehow mysteriously know, leaving our companions in awe.
When asked about it afterwards, we'll just say:
"I dunno. It must be a blue-haired thing."

  63. Hi Tavi! I just wanted to say that I'm almost 28 years old (yikes)and it absolutely amazes me how confident you are, how unique your style is and how you know exactly who your are, inside and out (which is so hard to come by from people your age). You don't give a crap what anyone says and groove to the beat of your own drum. It is truly inspirational to see someone like you do your thing, and not give a rat's ass about the mainstream. Its amazingly refreshing and I wish I was like that when I was your age.
Not to be all...when I was your age things were like this blah blah blah, but seriously, you rock to put it simply. Keep doing what you are doing.

A little trick we tell clients (I'm a hairstylist) is to put some of the blue color (Special FX is the best in my opinion) in some conditioner and use when you want a little touch up but not a full on re-color. Keeps it looking fresh. Have fun and keep rockin' it!

I can't tell you how many people I have met who mocked me as a teenager who are envious of my globe-trotting, style conscious lifestyle.

Don't let it phase you. Your oompah loompah pinache is a stepping stone to the rest of your life. Feel pity that your peers are unable to appreciate it, and try to educate them as much as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I really love the more pastel/frosted shade of blue you've gone with. It seems slightly alien, or fey, and I can see you using the color as inspiration for some very compelling outfits. 144. Tavi! Just put on Shakespeare's "Richard 3" (1954). The very opening scene features a 'blue-haired' Laurence Olivier putting a crown on his own head! :-)

  158. i can't believe you're into cotton candy coloured dos too, tavi! i was trying to take my fro-pomp to frosty new heights and drop some rose on top (inspired by http://models.com/work/love-magazine-dree-by-mert-and-marcus/10535); HOWEVER, my hair apparently lifts red. ugh. well, now i'm the modernized, brown girl version of orphan annie...which i don't hate! kinda loving the shock value. not gonna lie.

and i have the same magellanic cloud saved in my aptly named "besos & estrellas" desktop folder. you are about three steps away from being my style soulmate.

    thanks for being tavi.

  163. You look fantastic in the top photos. It's strange the difference between a 'flattering' camera and an 'unflattering' one - you look about 5 years different.

  168. that is indeed the most perfect shade of blue! aren't oompa loompas blue with orange hair? orange with blue hair? i gotta look this stuff up. meanwhile all my thoughts will be set to oompa loompa tunes.

  169. amazing color ma belle. It is lovely, different and you. Plus, Oompa Loompa names should be saved for people on the show Jersey Shore, not wicked bloggers with hair from Ghost World.

  172. The 199th comment is just a thanks for displaying the LULA pics, it reminded me that I have that magazine, and after digging it out of a rather tilted pile, I see what an issue that is. It has a candyfloss springlike lightness over it, and it was a joy to rediscover it now sitting with snow up to my knees in a suburb in Amsterdam. I think a magazine where the content is so nice that you wanna read it from cover to back then back to the cover again is such a rarity that it should be delivered on a unicorn. Also the POP magazine where you are featured holds so many great articles, like "The sound and fury" about personal issues going public, Maggie Thatcher as a style icon and the interview with Ed Ruscha. Etc, etc. When a magazine is like a reference book and you don't wanna chuck it back to the trees (like the mentioned "woman magazines" in your recent post that think all you want to do is loose weight and go to Ibiza to get a tan), that is when we can start talking. Also some ID issues I have from the 90's is like stepping into a immediate time capsule, something I believe a book can never approach in the same way.

It seems I had a hell of a lot to say about this topic, its probably because I am a (more than occasionally frustrated) graphic design student. Guess I should have stuck to the one-liner comments like "nice colour tavs". (So now I'm gonna go breathe, then colour-tint my bleached hair in time for spring to loosen up some tension)

  173. Love the blue hair. It's very flattering with your skin tone/eye color. I myself was loyal to blue all through highschool and half of college. Just don't over bleach it, or the blue will fall out too fast.
