Rodarte for Target

AAAAAooooohssssssgaaaaaa *whale noise*
I have been keeping this secret for SO LONG and now I can babble on about it until you're completely sick of me and exit the page! But we're not there quite yet so watch the video first!
I've been working with Rodarte and Target on this project since August and am so glad I could. Basically I interviewed editors and cool people from the editors preview, lookbook and ad campaign shoots and The Sisters about the collection and such. It was interesting to observe-I quite like the other side of the camera! Plus it was nice approaching Certain People I Really Admire and having something to say other than "I! um! ..I am such a big fan!" and at the same time difficult to refrain from saying "PS I LOVE YOU" after talking to said CPIRA. A challenge! Quite the experience! No but really, Kate and Laura are obviously great and hanging around with Autumn was great and talking to the stylists and hair and makeup and assistants and models and everyone was great. People are interesting! I like people! Actually not always. But everyone here, in this case.
There is an interview with Kate and Laura and myself at style.com, where this video premiered yesterday. We talk about the process of the collaboration and sometimes how my mom sang Norwegian lullabies about trolls while we were driving to a haunted church in East Jesus, Nowhere in North Dakota. Sonotembarrassing, thanksmom. Oh and I am apparently a bank robber! Excellent.
I'm bummed there will be no more trips but really pleased with the end product and psyched about the collection. Hope you enjoy!

  2. i like how you refer to them as The Sisters, with capitals. I think that's what I'll call them from now on. Not Rodarte, not the Mulleavy's, not Laura and Kate. Just, "I love this dress that The Sisters made."

  3. I really liked your style of interviewing, you should be proud to accomplish such a high profile project at your age. Keep up the great work TAVI, you have a gift!

  11. Tavi, I read a comment under the interview that said that you are smart enough to know that your popularity is due to your (young) age, rather than your talent as a writer or the value of your insights. I just wanted to say that I couldn't disagree more. I think you are first a talented, funny writer with incredible insight into design, style, artistry, and the amazing beautiful things that fashion can make someone, an outsider, a teenager in the suburbs looking at runway photos on the internet, not yet fully embedded in and swallowed by the industry feel, and that this is only made more incredible by your age. I'm a 23-year-old children's book editor in Brooklyn and I love to read your blog, not because I love fashion, but because your wonderment and joy of life are so captivating. All the best!

I realy like your writing, and to call you a journalist or not (from some of the comments on style.com)isn't what it's all about. It's just you expressing your opinion and lover (or hate) for something. And it's your blog. People doesn't have to read it if they don't want to.

I hope you keep this up. I think you'll be something great one day (well, you allready are in my eyes:).

i recently heard about you from my fashion history course professor. we had a discussion about teenage/young bloggers and blogs - the effects of technology, etc for our class.

it was fascinating to hear about all you've done within a 1-2 yr span. i do have to ask how you did it? how did you get so many readers and comments and get the attention of the fashion industry? :)

all in all, i wish you the best within your journey of life and hopefully one day we shall meet.
