the magic of hot glue and scraps of carpet samples

This is my last non-scheduled post for a week or so. Tomorrow morning my mom and I head to my dream destination: Tokyo!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in complete and utter disbelief still and will not get completely excited until I'm actually there and am sure it's all happening.
But oh my GOD guys, I can't wait. Well, I kind of can, because I still have to pack, but OH MY GOD!!!!! I would love to hear of any places to go but the schedule is already pretty packed...oh, and it includes meeting Rei Kawakubo, which...if you have read my blog at all, and especially if you're a long time reader, you know what that means for me. Can't even really talk about it.
SO, enjoy your weeks and here is the real post....

For a school art project, we had to make a little room, like a section of a dollhouse. I started out wanting mine to be all ~minimalistic, all white and plexiglass and stuff. Then I thought it'd be cool to add a Jeff Koons dog. Then McQueen shooz. Then magazines and books. And a bunk bed. And a couch. And a climbing rope, like the ones in gym class. Oops.
I took some of the leetle objects home yesterday and they're fashion related and appropos for ze blog. They're so LITTLE and cute! I love tiny coathangers. Oh, and all of the objects I made are supposed to follow a blue/green/red/pink color palette.

Jeff Koons dog (which needs a little repairing and touching up)
koons

Now the clothes! They are all about the size of my pinky.
Rodarte Fall 09 dress

Comme des Garcons Fall 09cdg aw09

Comme des Garcons Spring 97lumps and bumps

See how tiny they are? And my hands are small!
And yeah, sometimes I like to write "TBONE" on my knuckles, what of it?lumps and bumpslumps and bumps

Alexander McQueen Spring 10mcqueen ss10

And some mini books (only two of them are like the real cover, but yeah DEAL WITH IT.)books
Juergen Teller Marc Jacobs Advertising (I ordered this in AUGUST and Amazon said it's supposed to come this week..) Yayoi Kusama, Green Eggs and Ham, random book on Bob Dylan, and Nick Knight.
MIND YOU, I painted all of these and the magazines from memory, and my mem is getting a bit old n shaky.

Last but not least, magazines:
magazinesVogue Italia with Daphne Guinness on the cover
Natalia Vodianova's Prada nun Pop coverDVF on the cover of Purple with Margiela shouldersThat One Cover of Bazaar That Avedon Shot Where It's All Pink and Green and Stuff
Katie Fogarty on the cover of RUSSH

So that's that. Once again, I love tiny little mini versions of things.
Tokyo here I come...

  6. Your lying right now, right? I mean... are you? You are not meeting Rei. You're not. My brain can't process this, HOW ARE YOU NOT FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOWWWWW?

That looks like the funnest art project ever. In 4th grade we made these like "haunted houses" out of a cardboard box and had to connect some wires to a 9volt battery and lightbulb to make the fireplace light up. I think it was supposed to be for science, but I took it into my own hand to make it a fabulous living room spread while everyone else's just looked like crap. That was the most fun I had in elementary school, i think.

Anyhoo, hope you take a million pictures on your trip and TRY NOT TO FAINT WHILST IN THE PRESENCE OF GREATNESS. I just realized how long that plane ride will be. Can you get wireless on airplanes...?

And the miniature dresses and books and sculpture made me smile. So cute! If I had to make one of those, I'd fill it to the brim with random things that make me happy and end up with a studio-atelier-ANIMALRAINBOWHOME type thing.

  22. Japaaaaaan!!! You are going to have so much fun! And meeting Rei? Does she know about this? Just kidding =)

Actually a word of warning. While there are people who dress-up in crazy clothing on Sunday in Harajuku and Akihabara, it's also the day everyone goes there. They are PACKED with people. If you want to go shopping in either, go a different day. If you want to see people in wild outfits, go on Sunday but be prepared.

Ummm, there are so many places to see! I think if you can get to a h.NAOTO store you would enjoy the fashion there. The basement of La Foret store in Harajuku is a great way to see many of the hip Japanese designers all in one place.

If you can get to a shrine/temple, it's a nice way to unwind and experience tradition Japan. Gotoku-ji has the Lucky Cat temple and is a short train ride out of Tokyo proper. There are lots of shrine and temples all over. If you can get out of the city for just a bit or to one of the many parks, it helps to give more of a feeling of what Japan is like in all besides just seeing the buildings of Tokyo.

Hum, from what friends are saying, it's starting to get cold there so a jacket is a good thing to have.

Have super fun! And your tiny outfits are darling!

  119.  Hi Tavi!
Long time reader, first time commenter. (have just joined the wonderful bloggosphere). So, i was GOING to tell you how much i loved your blog and how great it was to see someone with such a passion for fashion (say it out loud, it rhymes), and that i really admire you and stuff BUT you're going to (or are already in) TOKYO! so instead i'll say: enjoy yourself. And also that those A MCQUEEN shoes are basically all i think about and i give Lady Gaga some points for wearing them in her video.(however i take points away for that whole weird Vodka smashing on piano thing at that awards show). Gee, this would look a lot less weird if there was some type of personal messageing system( taht their probably is but i havent discovered yet).
    ANYWAYS! keep it up!
